Opening Night Celebration

CONROE, TX  –   The Conroe Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce opening night of their 22nd season on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 7:30 PM at Conroe High School, located at 3200 West Davis Street, Conroe, TX 77304.  The CSO Opening Night Celebration features a performance by acclaimed Violinist and Philadelphia Concertmaster, David Kim.

David Kim will perform Violin Concerto in G minor by Bruch with the Conroe Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director and Conductor Dr. Don Hutson. The Orchestra will delight everyone with selections of Academic Festival Overture, Radetzky March, Miller’s Dance from the Three-Cornered Hat, Russian Sailor’s Dance from The Red Poppy, Sabre Dance from the Gayane Ballet and round out the perfect evening with a medley from the hit movie, Jurassic Park.

Violinist David Kim was named Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1999. Born in Carbondale, Illinois in 1963, he started playing the violin at the age of three, began studies with the famed pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the age of eight and later received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School.

A dedicated teacher, Mr. Kim presents master classes at colleges, universities and conservatories across the USA and Korea each season.  He is the founder and Artistic Director of the annual David Kim Orchestral Institute of Cairn University in Philadelphia, where he is also a Professor of Violin Studies.  Additionally, Mr. Kim serves as Distinguished Artist at the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University in Macon, GA.

Mr. Kim appears as soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra each season as well as with numerous orchestras around the world.  He also appears internationally at festivals such as Brevard, MasterWorks (USA), and Pacific (Japan).  He frequently serves as an adjudicator at international violin competitions such as the Menuhin and Sarasate.  Mr. Kim has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from Eastern University in suburban Philadelphia, the University of Rhode Island and Dickinson College.  Mr. Kim performs on violins hand-crafted from master luthiers including a J.B. Guadagnini from Milan, Italy ca. 1757 on loan from The Philadelphia Orchestra and a Michael Angelo Bergonzi from Cremona ca. 1754.  Mr. Kim resides in a Philadelphia suburb with his wife Jane and daughters Natalie and Maggie.  He is an avid runner, golfer, and outdoorsman.

The Conroe Symphony Orchestra’s 2018-2019 Season is in Full Swing!

Now is the time to purchase your Conroe Symphony Orchestra 2018-2019 Season Tickets!  Included with your Season Ticket purchase is admission to all CSO concerts for the 2018-2019 season PLUS two complimentary tickets to any one concert of your choice.  Season Tickets may be ordered by calling the Symphony Centre at 936-760-2144 or by visiting the Conroe Symphony Centre (please call for office hours).  Bringing guests?  Need additional tickets?  Tickets for each CSO performance are always available for purchase at the door prior to each concert.
